Solar Tree

Abstract

Solar energy utilization in "Urban setting" is extremely costly due to the associated 'Land cost'. We are solving this prolem with implementing Solar Photo Voltaic systems on tree like structures.

These structures occupy the aerial space to tap the solar energy and consume only 2%-3% of an equivalent traditional installation making the space available for other use like seating, parking, walking etc.

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

Institutions who would like to harness solar energy and thus help become grid independent without losing any significant land and beautify their campuses at the same time. Homeowners who would like to capture aerial space for additional solar energy generation. Government to tap land surrounding roads, railway routes, government institutes, etc..

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

The major solar PV usage is in solar farms of multi MW scales which are located far away from dense urban locations due to huge area requirements of solar farms for their setting up. The unavailability of land is a major cause for not harnessing solar PV in urban India. Also rural scenario might not always appeal for a solar farm especially if the land is fertile.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Grid independence will promote solar PV and in turn PuRE. Land appreciation and optimization will promote our Solar Tree product. Government interest in utilizing unusable land along roads, railway line etc..

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

We have two primary advantages: 1. Location: Telangana is one of the most energy deficit state of the country and a very good solar irradiation density. 2. Being first in the country we have reasonably good edge over any possible competition and also good changes to copyright our designs.
