Abstract

The Multiple Integrated Synchronized Turbines (MIST) Platform can revolutionize the offshore wind industry for the following reasons: by utilizing two counter-rotating, vertical-axis wind turbines on a single platform, many of the challenges with offshore wind can be overcome; the energy density and the extraction efficiency of the turbines can be optimized to be better than horizontal-axis turbines; the floating platform can be smaller and less expensive using these turbines.
