Mile High Decoys System

Abstract

The Mile High Decoys System is a new patent pending product designed to enhance the visibility of waterfowl hunters' motion decoys. Motion decoys are very effective at attracting waterfowl, however their effectiveness is hindered when displayed in heavy foliage. The Mile High Decoys System allows the hunter to raise their motion decoys above the interfering trees and shrubs. The Mile High Decoys System is taller, less expensive, and easier to carry than the competitor's, and is compatible with all major brands of motion decoys.

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

The end users of my products are migratory bird hunters, specifically ducks, geese, and doves. Other customers include waterfowl equipment manufacturers and outdoor product catalog companies through either purchase of the products or licensing agreements. This product could also be marketed to brick-and-mortar stores such as Cabelas or Sportsman's Warehouse.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Waterfowl hunters use motion decoys because they have proven to be very effective at drawing more birds into their hunting spot. These decoys are expensive ($60 to over $200), but they only work well when displayed in open areas. Some of the best waterfowl hunting occurs in swamps, small ponds and streams, flooded timber, or in other areas where trees and shrubs limit the effectiveness of motion decoys through limited visibility. The Mile High Decoys System provides the hunter with an economical way to make effective use of their motion decoys in areas where they are typically ineffective.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

The Mile High Decoys System is taller, less expensive, and easier to carry and set up than the competitors product. It is also the only system on the market that is compatible with all major brands of motion decoys. The threads on the Mile High Decoys Adapter are compatible with standard threads found on telescoping paint and utility poles which many hunters already own, thus they could take advantage of the Mile High Decoys System by simply purchasing the MHD Adapter. Since the MHD Pole has the same thread type, it can be used for household tasks when not in use in the field.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

This team is made up of an avid outdoorsman and hunter (Jeff Lacey), and two individuals that have started and run mulitple successful small businesses of their own (Roy and Renee Lacey). Jeff Lacey will be delivering the innovation and an understanding of the consumer's needs, while Roy and Renee Lacey will be guiding business decisions, such as strategic investments, marketing, and partnerships. Currently, one of our main advantages is the "patent pending" status of our system. This gives us the time we need to build the company and develop a strategic business plan. This also allows us to be the first and only company on the market selling this technology, and provides the consumer draw required to market additional products.
